Arable Crops Manager

Job Summary:

To explore and manage opportunities for the growing of feedstocks directly by the company and overseeing the whole process and cycle of crop growing from planning to harvest.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of field operations (land prep/drilling/applications of fertiliser/harvesting etc).
  • Keep abreast of new varieties, farm practices and industry innovations
  • Drive cost saving initiatives within the business
  • Liaise with external parties e.g. landowners, seed suppliers, agricultural contractors and internal parties and senior managers across the business
  • In association with the agronomists, plan and implement cropping schedules
  • Ensure crops are planted/drilled, sprayed and harvested in a timely manner
  • Maintain knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them
  • Understand the implications of the weather and make contingency plans
  • Keep crop records up to date using appropriate software
  • Understand the cash flow needs of the business, market trends and movements and link the agricultural operations

Requirements:

  • 3+ management years’ experience in arable farming/combinable crops
  • A strong understanding of all technical aspects of arable cropping and good all-round knowledge of the growing of arable crops and harvesting operations
  • Internal and external stakeholder management
  • Team management experience
  • Scheduling and planning of crops
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to farming
  • Relationship building
  • Process management
  • Good Excel and Word skills
  • Numerate
  • Level 5 qualification in management or willingness to attain with business support is preferred.
  • 5+ GCSEs grades 5-9 or equivalent, including Maths and English Language
  • Minimum HND qualification in agriculture

Location: Somerset Farm, Murrow.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, full time.

Digestate and Transport Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Digestate and Transport Manager to oversee our environmental services, managing land-spreading operations, lagoon management, compliance, and business development. This role requires a proactive leader to drive operational excellence and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, while ensuring full environmental and transport compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spreading & Lagoon Management: Oversee land-spreading operations, managing digestate processing and storage to ensure optimal seasonal volumes, and ensure timely, efficient off-take during the spreading season.
  • Resource Management: Handle resource allocation, including managing equipment, vehicles, and a skilled team of operators and drivers to meet operational targets.
  • Compliance Management: Take ownership of the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring all activities meet regulatory standards through audits, training, and system reviews. Act as the technically competent manager (CIWM/WAMITAB) and ensure land-spreading is conducted in line with legal regulations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with landowners, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Secure new opportunities for land-spreading, building long-term partnerships to support business growth.
  • Transport Management: Oversee all transport operations, ensuring vehicles and machinery are properly maintained, compliant with regulations, and that all drivers hold correct qualifications and licenses. Carry out tachograph analysis, driver CPC compliance, and oversee the hiring of additional vehicles and equipment.
  • Business Development: Identify and explore new business opportunities, including new materials for spreading. Work with other managers to ensure each business unit is financially optimized and aligned with company objectives.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, manage employee welfare, and maintain accurate records of operations, schedules, and maintenance.

Requirements:

  • CIWM WAMITAB and Transport Manager CPC qualification (or ability to hold).
  • Extensive experience in agricultural land application, digestate management, and environmental compliance.
  • Previous experience in transport management, including overseeing HGV operations, vehicle maintenance, and legal compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, budgets, and stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in IT for accurate record-keeping.

Location: Somerset Farm, Murrow.
